We found this hand stamped and hand dyed fabric from a 4th generation family of Batik makers in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The rainy season would contribute to delays in creating this product, as the sun is needed to activate natural dyes.
Portrayal of the palm fruit, or traditional "ceplok kawung" stamp motif. This Javanese geometric design has been dated since the 13th century and was originally reserved for the sultan and his family. The cross of each 'fruit' represents the universal energy source.
